Phase 4 of Lok Sabha elections 2024 will take place today. There are a total of1,717 candidates contesting across 96 seats in 10 states and Union Territories. Here are 10 key facts this phase.

voting is taking place in 96 Parliamentary Constituencies spread across nine states and one union territory, May 13.

The entire 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and 28 seats of the Odisha legislative assembly are set to be decided on this day as well.

Voting commenced at 7am and is scheduled to conclude at 6pm in all Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies.

The upcoming elections will take place in every Lok Sabha constituency across various states.

These include 17 seats in Telangana, all 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, five seats in Bihar, four seats in Jharkhand, eight seats in Madhya Pradesh, 11 seats in Maharashtra, four seats in Odisha, eight seats in West Bengal, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

The fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 brings important news:
The Election Commission of India revealed that a total of 1,717 candidates from 10 states/UT will be vying for seats in phase 4. Across these states, the commission received 4,264 nominations for 96 Parliamentary constituencies.

Telangana recorded the highest number of nomination forms filed at 1,488, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 1,103 nominations spanning 25 constituencies as reported by the election commission.

To encourage voter engagement, the polling time in specific assembly segments of 17 Parliamentary constituencies in Telangana has been extended from 7 am to 6 pm.

This election holds significance in Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

In the fourth phase, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA currently holds MPs from more than 40 of the 96 seats being contested. Noteworthy contenders include former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav running from Kannauj and Union ministers Giriraj Singh, Nityanand Rai, and Raosaheb Danve contesting from Bihar and Maharashtra constituencies.

Highlighted contests to observe include Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and ex-cricketer Yusuf Pathan in Baharampur, West Bengal, with BJP’s Pankaja Munde in Beed, Maharashtra. Focus is also on AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila in Kadapa.

TMC’s Mahua Moitra, who was expelled from Lok Sabha amid cash-for-query allegations, is aiming for re-election from Krishnanagar, West Bengal. In Asansol, the competition features film star-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha against BJP’s veteran leader SS Ahluwalia.

As per the India Meteorological Department, parliamentary constituencies in the fourth phase are forecasted to have normal to below-normal temperatures, without heatwave-like conditions on polling day.

The voter turnout for the initial three phases of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 stood at 66.14%, 66.71%, and 65.68%, consecutively.
